Co-teaching Is
Dear Parents:
Co-teaching is when two professionals teach the same class together in the same room. Co-teaching has become a proven alternative method of teaching which addresses the wide variety of academic needs.
Co-teaching class requires planning and collaboration to meet the needs of all students. Each teacher has different areas of expertise to ensure that the students benefit from this situation. Two teachers share a common goal that each child can reach academic success.
In addition to co-planning, co-teachers will also co-instruct. This can take a variety of forms; sometimes both work in front of the class, while at other times one teacher will take the lead while the other will be circulating and helping with discipline, modifications, and individual needs. Often co-teachers take turns doing this to ensure that the students understand that we are both “their teachers.” This will also allow teachers to personalize and individualize our instruction as needed.
Co-teachers work together to assess the progress of each student and will share grading. Discussion of any individual modifications or accommodations necessary for students with special needs at the same time working hard to really challenge all students..
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, or if you want to share helpful information related to your child’s needs. I can be reached at (901) 416-0360, or by email at [email protected]. The best time to reach me at school 7:30 a.m.; 3:30 p.m.; or leaves a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
I look forward to a successful year and to working with you and your child.
Sincerely,
Ms. Crawford
